Air-core coil

A coil which does not have a magnetically conductive core to reinforce the magnetic field is termed an air-core coil. This kind of coil does not have the saturation effect. However, in order to achieve levels of inductance suitable for everyday use but with low internal resistance, very large, expensive coils with correspondingly large wire gauges are required.
